First : Date of
establishment
The activities of KICHR started
gradually with the lectures given by its Director General
and the publication of books, articles and studies.
As of 27 January 2002,
KICHR became fully operational when its Director General
left Government service.

Second : Objectives
and means
(1)
The main objectives of KICHR are the
promotion and protection of human rights and humanitarian law,
and advocay for the rights-based approach.
(2)
KICHR means for attaining its
objectives are the following:
(a)
Awareness-raising, capacity building,
dissemination of information, training, and advocacy.
(b)
Giving advice, providing expertise,
making studies and preparing rights-based manuals for
governments, political parties, civil society, NGOs,
individuals, international organizations and agencies,
businesses, private companies and corporations.
(c)
Designing and executing workshops in
the fields of human rights, humanitarian law, legal and
institutional aspects of water resources and drafting of
contracts.
(d)
Cooperation with relevant Government
institutions, civil society, NGOs and the international
community.
Third :
Legal status and working relations
KICHR is a non-governmental civil
society institution working through its Director General who
is a human rights defender and a lawyer by profession, and
through human rights’ activists and defenders, NGOs and other
entities having working relations with KICHR.
Human
rights activists and defenders, NGOs and other entities may
establish the following working relations with KICHR:
Volunteer: works
voluntarily for KICHR
Adviser: undertakes activities on behalf of KICHR.
Affiliated member: cooperates with KICHR in attaining its
objectives.

Experience: 30 years experience in
law and human rights practice, nationally, regionally and
internationally, and was the former Undersecretary of the
Ministry of Justice up to January 2002.
